The Next Big Thing

The Next Big Thing Blog Hop

1. What is your working title/title of your book?

TRINITY STONES is the first book in my four book series, The Angelorum Twelve Chronicles.

2. Where did the idea come from for the book?

The underlying series concept is based on real-life experience and the idea that there are some people placed in our lives for a reason. I’d like to think our connection goes beyond the physical and drives us at the soul level. Together, we have something significant to accomplish. As a result, the tagline to the book: “There are no coincidences, only destinies to be fulfilled.”

3. What genre does your book fall under?

Contemporary Urban Fantasy Romance. How’s that for a genre mash-up?

4. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

I’ve thought about this a lot, actually. Emma Stone would make a great Cara, my protagonist. Paul Walker as Kai, Cara’s married first love. Finally, hands-down, Chris Helmsworth as Simon Young – the version of him with long blonde hair.

5. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

One sentence… hmm. I tried, but I had to use more.

A young woman who is unlucky in love inherits fifty million dollars on her twenty-seventh birthday and finds out she is the key to a prophecy to lead the final battle between angels living among us and Lucifer’s minions, the Dark Ones, who want to claim mankind for their own.

But love has a plan of its own. Cara seems cursed to fall in love and be denied the men she loves. She’s inexplicably tied to her first love, scientist Dr. Kai Solomon, a married man she can never have. When she meets the mysterious Simon Young, she wonders if she can break her curse or if she’ll end up back where she started.

When Kai and his 4 year-old daughter are kidnapped by the Dark Ones, Cara realizes there are no coincidences and it’s not just her heart, but also her destiny, that are entwined with the men in her life.

6. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

The manuscript is currently on submission and I’ve been actively seeking agent representation. However, I'm also entertaining a partner publishing model through a publisher such as She Writes Press or Abbott Press (Division of Writer’s Digest).

7. How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

Writing the first draft went quickly – once I picked it up after 18 months. Three months to finish the last 75,000 words. The hard part was editing, which took much longer. Since it was my first novel, I worked with several editors and went through several rewrites. I plan to make one final pass… after I finish the second book, which is almost complete.

8. What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

The story has the same tone as Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter series, and Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland Vampire Series.

9. Who or what inspired you to write this book?
See question two…

10. What else about your book might pique the reader's interest?

The series is set primarily in New York City and San Francisco. This is a character-driven book and includes a wider cast than described above. My intent was to write a fantasy that flirted with the veil of reality, rather than ripping a gaping hole in it. I want the reader to think – this could happen to me.
